Day 1: Departure
We will depart from your hotel after breakfast and head into the Fernan Perez/Campohermoso (translated as ‘beautiful field) area (within the Cabo de Gata/Nijar nature reserve) for plains, farmland and orchard birds including Little Bustard, Black-bellied Sandgrouse, Stone Curlew, Great Spotted Cuckoo, Roller, Hoopoe, Calandra, Short-toed and Lesser Short-toed Larks followed by an afternoon and overnight at the secluded and charming beach resort of Agua Amarga. This offers you the chance to relax on the beach followed by a drink (or two!) at a local bar and a pleasant evening meal overlooking the sea. We will stay in an excellent hotel in the resort overnight.
After breakfast at the hotel we will explore a local ‘rambla’ (river bed) for a range of birds and wildlife with the chance to encounter Spectacled and other Warblers, Redstarts, Wheatears, lizards, snakes and chameleons and with luck a Wryneck! We can also explore the surrounding plains area if desired. We will depart around lunchtime and return you to your hotel after a great trip.
